About Us

Founder

Darryl Harvey

Darryl Harvey is a native of Chicago. During high school, he became interested in poetry. He attended Northern Illinois University and worked on his writing style. Years after graduation he published his first book, Loving a Black Woman, which received rave reviews. Mr. Harvey later became a children’s author and wrote the Sunflower Series, which focuses on social emotional learning. After a few years of speaking with black parents about the lack of resources in finding books that included black children, Mr. Harvey got the idea to create an event for that population.  In 2019, Mr. Harvey created the Black Child Book Fair, which promotes literacy in black communities and travels across the country.
