Hi, My name is Darryl Harvey and I am the director of the International Black Child Book Fair also known as the Black Child Book Fair. We are a traveling event that has promoted literacy in black communities since 2019, by bringing independent black authors from across the country with characters and stories for children of color to be inspired by and learn from.
We want to give books as a gift to underprivileged children at our fifth annual event on February 2, 2024 in Chicago. We plan to invite 300 students to our event.

As you may know, black children's test scores in reading are below the national average in the United States. Many children have difficulty with reading or are just uninspired. Also, many children that we try to reach come from crime ridden areas and suffer from different kinds of trauma, which prevents them from giving their best efforts to learning.
Research shows that children that take part in reading for 20 minutes a day or more have a greater chance of doing better on tests than 90% of their classmates. Our authors have written books that are culturally relative and empowering to all young readers. We are asking for a donation of $3,000 to make sure each child gets a book.
