The Black Child Book Fair is hosting its awards ceremony at the Chicago Black Child Book Fair on February 14, 2026. The awards ceremony will honor authors and illustrators with outstanding contributions to black children’s literature in the year 2025.
1. Author or illustrator must live in the U.S. or maintain dual residency/citizenship.
2. Books must be published in the year preceding the year the award is given, evidenced
by the copyright date printed in the book. For example, books submitted for the 2025
BCBF Book Awards must have the copyright date of 2025. Any books printed before
2025 will not be considered.
3. Only finished copies will be accepted. Do not send advance reader copies, galleys,
etc. Digital copies will not be accepted.
4. The BCBF judging committee DOES NOT give reviews or critiques on books. This
includes books being submitted to the BCBF Awards.
5. Titles submitted for the BCBF Book Awards will not be returned. Titles received by
the BCBF will be donated to school libraries.
